When I was doing @kayla_itsines #bbg programs, I would get discouraged when I’d see amazing progress photos, showing women’s progress at the 4, 6, 8 and 12 week marks. I was so impressed and inspired at first, but it quickly got negative because my progress (or lack thereof) didn’t look like theirs. It made me feel beyond defeated, self conscious, the list was endless, and it definitely didn’t include “strong”, “beautiful”, “confident” or “happy”. This is why I sometimes struggle with sharing progress photos because I could be doing the exact same program/protocol as another woman, but our results will ALWAYS look and be very different and specific to the individual. One thing that IS the same regardless of who you are is that THIS SHIT DOES NOT HAPPEN OVERNIGHT. For example, this shows May 2016 next to December 2018. We all know this (or claim that we do), but how much do we ACTUALLY believe it? I felt like I was working my ass off (and I was), but I was focusing more on the results that I WASN’T seeing instead of focusing on the progress that I WAS making. 🙄🤦🏻‍♀️ And what that second picture doesn’t show is all of the progress that I’ve CONTINUED to work toward and make since it was taken late last year. Not seeing the results you want to see? Not feeling good in the skin you’re in? I challenge you to start focusing more on your MENTAL strength because, from my experience, that strength controls far more than your physical strength ever will. It gets you started and, more importantly, it keeps you going, even when you get discouraged and impatient. Stay patient, be consistent and keep going, my friends. We CAN, and we WILL. 💪🏼👊🏼

Happy hump day babes 🍑 Today was my first tempo run on my new half marathon training guide & I was excited for something different!! The plan was: . . 500m walk ➕500m jog ➕ 500m run ➕ 500m sprint ✖️3. . So 6km in total (which isn’t all that different to what I can do comfortably now) I was excited to break up my run & push myself with pace which sometimes I don’t do 🙅🏻‍♀️ My mentality has pretty much always been - doesn’t matter how slow, as long as I finish (aka survive 😂) Pace hasn’t really bothered me 🐢🐢🐢 But part of this plan is speed & I’m pretty good at doing what I’m told. So I’m going to follow the plan, push myself as much as I can & hopefully reap the benefits 🙌🏼🎉😍. . Everything I did today was pretty bloody good. The sprints definitely challenged me. 2 of the 3 sprints I had to stop at the 300m mark for a breather 🌬but we all have to start somewhere right -  I can only get better from here!! . . Quick question for any of you runners (@1happy_fit_mum, @activelyanna_ , @liz_houwen, @leaner_evins) & anyone else!! But what app do you use to track your pace/distance? Every app I have found (map my run, Nike run club) only notify you at 1km & track pace per km! I would love one that could do shorter stints (like my 500m circuit today) but I just don’t know if one exists? Any recommendations would be amazing 😘 Hope you all have fab days!! 💕

what an excellent background I KNOW 😍 anywayZ just finished,  what is now, my weekly Tuesday swim, and been thinking 👇🏻 - Convo with @dza.fit earlier got me thinking (as always), about how fine the line is between goal setting and obsession.  As in, obviously we want to enjoy training but also obviously we want to progress with our performance, but either you focus too much on the numbers and progression and become obsessed and it removes the reasoning WHY you do it, I.e to enjoy, as a stress relief, etc, orrrr the converse.  For me personally, I do get motivated by performance progression and I train to improve the way I can perform and just become strong and fit, but the no. 1 reason I train is for my mental wellbeing and enjoyment.  Have such an internal conflict with tracking training, but then if I didn’t, how can I objectively measure progression? Well, you can’t. But then if I track it, will I just become fixated on the numbers and start to hate it? Also perhaps.  I think in order to kind of dodge this shit, you need to just be hyper aware of your headspace and your thoughts surrounding what you’re doing, take a step back and just think about WHY.  It’s a fine line and I wish I could see where it is. But I guess that’s the beauty of life.
