⠀ 74p. 'Freedom is what I want for you Geryon we're true friends you know that's why I want you to be free.' 'Don't want to be free want to be with you.' ⠀ 132p. 'What Geryon was thinking Herakles never asked. In the space between them developed a dangerous cloud.'
“Like the terrestrial crust of the earth / which is proportionately ten times thinner than an eggshell, the skin of the soul / is a miracle of mutual pressures.” — Anne Carson, AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF RED // I reread this last week partly because I felt inspired to reread it for Pentecost (maybe this could become an annual ritual!) & it nourished me. pictured here with my beautiful-yet-basic “mineralogie” poster because it’s thematic and also because I’m making a conscious effort to be “back on my bullshit” as the kids say . . . . upcoming posts include: GINGERBREAD, THE UNBEARABLE LIGHTNESS OF BEING, SULA, & much more! // hoping to fully catch up on the book diary soon, but I’ve realized that I want to devote my time to ones I have something to say about, so I’m dumping some photos here of the ones I won’t be making individual posts for (The Argonauts was also reread, so you can scroll back to see my post about it) — purely for “diary” purposes (because I also use this account as an actual reading record & not just because I like to pretend people care what I’m thinking about hehe) x . . . . #bookdiary#autobiographyofred#annecarson#hybridgenre#poetry#prose#aesthetic#volcanoes#geology#reading#instabooks#instalibros#reading#amreading#languagelearning#harrypotter#potterhead#expats#idk#readersofinstagram#womenwriters
"This was when Geryon liked to plan his autobiography, in that blurred state between awake and asleep when too many intake valves are open in the soul. Like the terrestrial crust of the earth which is proportionately ten times thinner than an eggshell, the skin of the soul is a miracle of mutual pressures. Millions of kilograms of force pounding up from earth’s core on the inside to meet the cold air of the world and stop, as we do, just in time." -Anne Carson Autobiography of Red is pretty damn beautiful...though it’s a short book, I’m taking my time because every page must be savored.
