I finished my Undercover Maker mat, though it was a looking a bit iffy for a while. With mid weight fabrics & matchstick quilting, sewing through all of the layers was a real struggle. But the third attempt worked - a time out & some great advice did the trick & it was a huge relief. And I love this project so much, the Melody Miller prints on the pocket panel are long hoarded favourites from her Ruby Star lines for Kokka. And I’m glad I tried matchstick quilting, the texture is fantastic but I don’t think I’d try it on a larger project - this one used 5 bobbins of Aurifil 2310 50wt thread. The front of the panel is a Euclid print by Carolyn Friedlander & the charcoal pocket binding fabric is from the same line. The backing is another Melody Miller fabric but this one is a #cottonandsteeloriginaldesigners print as is the pink binding on the rest of the mat, this one by @rashida_coleman_hale. I made the mat as part of the sew along hosted by @lillyellasworld & I think I finished just in time for the extended deadline. #undercovermakermatsal2018#undercovermakermat#rubystarrising#rubystarshining#sugarloafblock @missmelodymiller @kokkafabric @carolynfriedlander #euclidfabric#matchstickquilting#aurifilthread#sewingmachinecover#favouritefabrics
This ones a pretty special one... the fabric was given to me in a bundle (minus the background) by my grandmother just before she died. She had bought the fabric when travelling in Italy on her last overseas trip. I’ve kept it as a bundle tied up in the purple ribbon just waiting for the right time and inspiration as to what to do with it. I recently found the block called Carpenter’s Square which seemed appropriate as my grandfather was one. So I’ve put it all together and given it to my mother (their daughter) for her birthday. Pattern: Carpenter’s Square Fabric: who knows, they were fat quarters! And background is the ever dependable and beautiful @frenchgeneral solids Thread: Aurifil variegated @aurifil_thread_australia the only one! #frenchgeneral#frenchgeneralfabrics#heirloomquilt#birthdayquilt#aurifil#aurifilthread @littlebackyardgardener
