It is well away from the deeply cut “rut” between the main east-west pilgrimage routes to Santiago de Compostela. Medieval pilgrims would not visit it if they were travelling the main coastal routes that edges the Bay of Biscay, nor if they were coming from the east of Spain along the northern edge of the great Spanish Meseta plain. Photo by @emilia_romanica Sep 2018 The church of Saint-Nizier of Burnand 🇫🇷 is a beautiful Romanesque church mentioned in the C11. During electrical work around 1980, a protrusion dug in the south wall of the apse revealed traces of color. After research and restoration, it turned out that mural paintings were two superposed decorations (early C12 and middle C15).
J’ai rarement vu un endroit où l’on est saisi dès que l’on y entre par l’émerveillement comme celui-ci. Effet waouh garanti ! Le chef d’œuvre arabo-normand du roi Roger II, 1130. God is great to make people build such beauties ⭐️⭐️⭐️ #capellapalatina #palazzodeinormanni #palerme #palermo #sicile #sicilia #sicily #italie #italia #italy #michelin #guidevert #guidevertmichelin #leguidevert #michelinguide #guidemichelin #ilovepalermo #palermocittadarte #weekend #travel #instatravel #guide #architecture #art #artroman #romanesc #eglise #church #picoftheday #🇮🇹

It replaced the medieval tower, although it is not known exactly where the original tower was located. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This construction was the reason also that the main portal was covered over and not rediscovered till the mid-19th century. Around the same time the old cloister was dismantled and the present two-floored one built. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Text source: David de la Garma and Víctor López Lorente, ARTEGUIAS.com ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #cangasdeonís #asturias #sanpedrodevillanueva #monastery #spain #caminodesantiago #reconquista #artroman #spain_photographs #romanesque #ig_asturias #kingfavila #sculpture #medieval #architecture #instagood #australianartist #instatravel #photography #instago #travel #travelling #picoftheday #instaart #middleages #12thcentury #ig_spain #sculpture #alchemy #stonemason

All Rights Reserved. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ During a construction campaign in 1774, the nave (or the naves - it is unknown whether there were one or three) of the Romanesque structure were removed. However, the outer walls and the apse were fortuitously saved. The plan had been to tear down the entire church and it is unknown why or how this was averted. The current building is covered with a large semicircular vault divided into three sections. This replaced the medieval roof, which was almost certainly made of wood. It was necessary to construct exterior buttresses to accomodate the weight of the new roof. A choir was also built at this time. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Some capitals on the arches of the interior of the main apse show what appear to be narrative scenes of a struggle. One on the south side depicts a man armed with a sword who confronting a fierce lion which forces his left front claw on the man’s shield. The capitals of the south apse, depict a struggle between man and animals such as lions and birds. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Text sources: en.m.wikipedia.org; m.arteguias.com ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #cangasdeonís #asturias #sanpedrodevillanueva #monastery #spain #caminodesantiago #reconquista #artroman #spain_photographs #romanesque #ig_asturias #kingfavila #sculpture #medieval #architecture #instagood #australianartist #instatravel #photography #instago #travel #travelling #picoftheday #instaart #middleages #12thcentury #ig_spain #sculpture #alchemy #stonemason
