On Tuesday we wrapped up our Ancient Persia block with a story on Zarathustra. We've decided to switch our medium of instruction from our native tongue of Bahasa Malaysia to English. My eldest is feeling less sure of himself, hence his wobbly cursives. He asked to use a graphite pencil to write in instead of pens or colour pencils that he's used to. I'm hoping that with more exposure and consistency, he'll feel more comfortable writing in our 2nd language. Why the switch? Partly because I can't wait to introduce him to all the classics I'd enjoyed as a child; remember the Chronicles of Narnia series? As well as those I didn't get to read such as Oliver Twist, Treasure Island, and the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Oh dear, I'm getting ahead of myself! #ancienthistory #languagearts #waldorfinspired
Probably one of the most fascinating attractions in #yazd #iran: The Towers of Silence. These towers were used in #zoroastrian #traditions for their funeral process. Bodies would be placed on the towers' platforms for birds of prey to clean the bones. The ritual dates back from the 9th-century BC to prevent contamination of the earth. In Yazd, the towers were still used until about 40 years ago. As in Kerman, the site was highly intriguing, but even more so here in Yazd given the size of the complex. The most recognizable part of the Yazd site is this water reservoir built for the mourning families coming for the duration of the funeral. Learning about Zoroastrians was one of the most unexpected aspects of Iran, like how the religion is still alive nowadays. A testament to the rich and complex history of Iran. How much have you ever heard about Zoroastrians? . . . . . . . . . . . #aroundtheworld #exploretheworld #igtravel #tourtheplanet #travel #traveldeeper #travelhotography

Personal stamp of Roman potter 'Gessus i', on a fragment from the base of a Samian ware vessel. c. AD 43-100. Found on the River Thames foreshore, London. . Gessus was one of several hundred Roman potters operating around La Graufesenque in Southern Gaul, not far from today's Montpellier. This was one of the small number of locations from which pottery was exported across the Empire. . He does not seem to have been one of the most prolific potters in terms of exporting to Britain. Only a few finds bearing his stamp have been made here, mostly cups (swipe x1). These have been dated to the early days of the Roman presence in Britain; AD 43-100. One possibility therefore, is that the vessel this find was originally part of, was exported to Britain to meet the needs of the army. This was probably the most significant purchaser of imported pottery in Britain at this time. . Such imports probably piggybacked shipments of meat, grain and wine from Southern Gaul. Evidence from Roman shipwrecks suggests cargos of purely pottery were rare as it was a fragile, low margin commodity. . #romanpottery #roman #romanbritain #ancientrome #romans  #archaeology #romanarchaeology  #museumoflondon #mudlarking #mudlarkingfinds #metaldetctingfinds  #metaldetecting #beachcombing #potteryshards #pottery #ceramics #vintage #potter #montpelier #ancienthistory #gaul #antique #london #ancient #history #historylesson

Do you love history? Read on… Delightful pops of colour on the island of Patmos that has been inhabited since 3,000 BC, and named in honour of the Goddess Artemis.💕 A flourishing island community, until the Roman conquest when the islands original inhabitants’ population declined rapidly due to being used as a place of exile convicts. The Apostle John was one of those exiled by the Romans & lived out his life from 95-97 AD, before returning to Ephesus. During his time on the island he brought the inhabitants to Christianity & wrote the Book of Revelation, the Apocalypse. Patmos then became a place of worship & pilgrimage with an increase in population.💕 A tumultuous period in history saw the island being occupied by the Romans until 390, during which time; Christianity was officially recognised by the Roman Empire. More change came with the end of the Roman occupation in 390 & the beginning of the Byzantine Empire from 395 with continuous raids by Saracen pirates, which again saw the island become a place for prisoners. It was during the 10th century that saw the division between the Christian church, marking two Christian religious followings; Greek Orthodox and Roman Catholic.💕 Another period of unrest again saw pirates drive away the Monks in 1093, & returning again in 1100 & gaining protection by the Occidental powers in 1127.💕 Walking back from the Monastery of St. John through the labyrinth of tiny lanes & whitewashed houses that hug the cliff side, that where built by the workers constructing the Monastery during 1132 and connected by a direct path to the Monastery. The village of Horo is born. 💕 Continuous periods of unrest inflict the island, up to & beyond the fall of the Byzantine Empire to the Ottoman Empire in 1453. 368 years later in 1821 brings the victorious Greek revolution with Patmos amongst other islands being liberated. However, it wasn’t until March 1948 that the Dodecanese Islands were officially united with the rest
The Phoenicians were a people known for their sea fairing and trade across the mediterranean and beyond with colonies and influences extending from the eastern mediterranean to the Iberian peninsula and beyond, These groups of canaanites by the eastern mediterranean coast were known as phoenicians by the greeks because of their prized merchandise, purple dye or Tyrian red extracted from the Murex snail. The Purple dye was deemed having more worth than gold because it was only the Roman and Greek elites allowed to have the precious color on their cloths. The Phoenicians were also the first to create see through and colorful glass vases and other precious items by around 1550 B.C, They probably used the newly invented bellows to finally get their furnaces hot enough to get strings of glass. Phoenicians were also famous for their trading ships, which were typically 60 feet (19 meters) long, enough to fit the cargo and supplies for their long journey. These ships proved to be the strongest at the time being able to sail out to the Atlantic through the pillars of Hercules (straits of Gilbrater) and come back within months: making them being the first peoples of the known world to go into the unknown and comeback with treasures from west Africa and the British Isles. The amount of colonies and trading routes along a vast distance needed to be monitored and the cargo and prices being kept track of, The Phoenician alphabet was created, the first alphabet known in history. It is an alphabet of abjad type, consisting of 22 consonant letters only, leaving vowel sounds implicit, although certain late varieties use matres lectionis for some vowels. #history#ancienthistory#phoenicians#canaanites#lebanon#syria#palestine#israel#tunisia

So let me tell you about something interesting I learned about a while back. This is a writing system called Ogham, it is an ancient writing system that was used in the Middle Ages to write Proto/Old Irish and Old Welsh and was primarily used by the various Celtic tribes in the British Isles and the Picts of Pictland (now Scotland); it consists of horizontal and slanted lines carved on or along a vertical line. No one knows the exact etymological origin of “Ogham” but some believe it comes from the Proto-Irish word: “Og-úaim” meaning “point-seam” and was mostly written on perishable materials like wood up until the 4th century when the ogham stones started appearing and most inscriptions consist of personal names. However the Ogham alphabet fell out of fashion after the Irish began mingling with other cultures and the Latin alphabet took over, but Ogham was still taught in schools due it’s cultural significance to it’s people and it made it easier for those learning the Latin alphabet in the regions of ogham’s use. Today, Ogham stones can be found throughout Scotland, Southern Ireland, Wales and parts of Western England and is quite unique and beautiful to behold. #language #writing #alphabet #writingsystem #languagewritingsystems #history #languagehistory #ogham #oghamstone #oghamwriting #celtichistory #celticwriting #celtic #beithluisnin #protoirish #oldirish #oldirishwriting #ancientwriting #oldalphabets #ancientalphabet #ancienthistory #irish #irishlanguage #oldlanguages #funhistory #ilovehistory #ilovelanguage #historyiscool

(For more Minoan Palaces, Swipe>>) Well, well, well... I'm about to leave Crete and still have a half dozen Minoan sites I could post about. Knossos is the piece de resistance, but first I will summarize all the rest with this slideshow of just two others. #~ Zakros and Palaikastro were two coastal towns/palaces on the east side of Crete. They each occupied one of the few good harbors on the island, and so were involved in a lot of sea trade, especially with Eastern states. The ruins weren't very photogenic, especially on the overcast days I visited, so slides are mostly of artifacts. Descriptions follow: #~ 1> View from Palaikastro: Look at that beachfront location; and note my rock-star parking spot at this unvisited site. 2> The Zakros Palace Courtyard: The canonical N-S orientation of the Minoan courtyard means the coast is to the left. 3> Ivory Tusk and Copper Ingots (Zakros): Trade with Cyprus and Egypt. 4> Statue (Palaikastro): Happy nightmares! These charred remains were once covered in ivory, Egyptian blue paint, with crystal eyes and gold leaf clothing. 5> Rhyton (Zakros): Some Hittite- and Bablylonian-looking influences in the reliefs. 6> Vases (Zakros): You can pinch and read the label. 7> Mold (Palaikastro): Mold for casting a votivey-guy, and what is probably an astronomical tool. 8> Vase (Zakros): Are those peacock eyes and feather? An unusual design for Crete and Greece. 9> Vase (Zakros): A more common design, of conch shell icons with three waves feelers poking out. 10> Gorgon/Medusa Mask (Palaikastro): This is the only artifact not from the Minoan period, but often these towns kept going after the Minoans disappeared. This is from a temple to "Diktian Zeus", the Zeus of Psychro Cave I posted about. 8thC BC, if I recall correctly. #~ #zakros #palaikastro #crete #visitcrete #greece #visitgreece #ancientruins #ancientartifacts
As a Living Vampyre, I seek to nurture both the dark and light with in my spirit and educate others in how to do so, as well. I seek to walk in the pride of the lineage of those who came before me, those nobles and arbiters and priests and scholars who watched over and nurtured humanity so that they might reach their full potential! #ascension #gnosis #kemet #anunnaki #starseed #newage #pagan #babylon #ancienthistory #mystic #shaman #divine #magick #nobility #temple #earthmagick #history #mythology #vampires #sumer #nagual #divinity #nirvana #dharma #cosmic #spirit #awakening #thirdeye #egypt #universal
It’s difficult to describe being a Vampyre unless you are one. It’s a spiritual path, it’s transcendent and ever-present. It’s about living a life where the colors are brighter, the bonds are stronger and the universe simply allows you to thrive. And when I think of the innate ability of the Vampyre to transcend and defeat corporeal death, it makes me think of the experiences I have endured where I came close so many times to losing and even taking my own life—Yet I am still here standing. Six thousand years of mythology—Six thousand years that is our Legacy! We are all a part of something infinitely greater than ourselves! And that is what keeps me going. #ascension #gnosis #kemet #anunnaki #starseed #newage #pagan #babylon #ancienthistory #mystic #shaman #divine #magick #nobility #temple #earthmagick #history #mythology #vampires #sumer #nagual #divinity #nirvana #dharma #cosmic #spirit #awakening #thirdeye #egypt #universal

And these are just merely myths of fleshly, earthbound Vampyres. What of these so-called “Undead Gods” which seem to so resemble the mages and Watchers of ancient myths? They are the Grigori, the band of angels who descended to the Earth to teach mankind the secrets of ascension, enlightenment, magick and alchemy. They are the Ramanga, viziers of the king who ensured no spiritual harm came to his sovereign. They are the asuras, elemental Titans who exist purely to satisfy every primal urge. They exist everywhere—Perhaps “Vampyre” might not be an accurate term to truly describe us? And has such a term relegated us to a narrow perspective where being who and what we are has our human cousins, former compatriots, now look upon us in fear and revulsion when we only did our best by them? #ascension #gnosis #kemet #anunnaki #starseed #newage #pagan #babylon #ancienthistory #mystic #shaman #divine #magick #nobility #temple #earthmagick #history #mythology #vampires #sumer #nagual #divinity #nirvana #dharma #cosmic #spirit #awakening #thirdeye #egypt #universal

“When the Vampyre Gods openly ruled this world, the priests who were Living Vampyres utilized a physical device which opened the Gate between the astral and physical planes,” or so it is written within the scripture of the Temple of Hekal Tiamat. Called Necromanteions, the remains of these so-called “devices,” likely temples in reality, have been found in Egypt, Greece and Iraq. It was a place for our human cousins to draw near their hyperdimensional Elders for personal guidance and requests. For those of us of the Blood, it was a place to find Zhep’r (transformative enlightenment). #ascension #gnosis #kemet #anunnaki #starseed #newage #pagan #babylon #ancienthistory #mystic #shaman #divine #magick #nobility #temple #earthmagick #history #mythology #vampires #sumer #nagual #divinity #nirvana #dharma #cosmic #spirit #awakening #thirdeye #egypt #universal
One myth that comes to mind is the Kemetic legend of Ausar (Osiris) being brought back from the dead as a divine ruler. He is not merely god of the dead, but by transcending death, he is the god of rebirth, “he who is forever young.” It brings to mind the association Vampyres have with not simply death but the triumph over death, eternal youth as is dealt with in the cinema. Attacked by his jealous brother Set, Osiris was killed and dismembered, but his wife, goddess of magick, brought him back effortlessly so that he might reign as arbiter over the living. #ascension #gnosis #kemet #anunnaki #starseed #newage #pagan #babylon #ancienthistory #mystic #shaman #divine #magick #nobility #temple #earthmagick #history #mythology #vampires #sumer #nagual #divinity #nirvana #dharma #cosmic #spirit #awakening #thirdeye #egypt #universal

The origin of the Vampyre is shrouded in mystery. Even other Living Vampyres I’ve known are unaware of where they come from and our history. Dissatisfied with their lack of answers, I began to dig through the annals of history to find the answers for myself. The Vampyre has existed everywhere from Japan to Sumer to India and everywhere in between, in every shape and form, beastly and of man. When you begin to read between the lines, the myths tell fascinating stories of Ascended beings living in the material realm who watched over and aided mankind through the centuries… #ascension #gnosis #kemet #anunnaki #starseed #newage #pagan #babylon #ancienthistory #mystic #shaman #divine #magick #nobility #temple #earthmagick #history #mythology #vampires #sumer #nagual #divinity #nirvana #dharma #cosmic #spirit #awakening #thirdeye #egypt #universal
