I have the pleasure of touring the Law Library of Congress back in 2017. It was phenomenal! Their main floor was typical law library status but the really interesting parts were on other levels! They had hallways full of card catalogs! And prior to the card catalog are the log books they used. You can see them on top! Then, we were able to see the basement where they had stacks and stacks of international law books. It was soo very cool!!

This Friday marks ten years to the day that I received the Caldecott Medal for my illustrations in "The House in the Night" by Susan Marie Swanson. It has been a great honor to create books for children. For me, these ten years have been a whirlwind of children's book work and time back in school to receive a degree in textile/surface design. During this decade, Dave and I have proudly watched our daughters finish middle school, high school, college, grad school, find jobs, and set up homes for themselves. Reading with our children was a highlight of my life as a parent. I am humbled that so many families have made "The House in the Night" part of their nightly reading routine, and I thank those who have contacted me to tell me so. I will be eternally grateful to the American Library Association for bestowing the Caldecott Medal on our little book "The House in the Night". #caldecottmedal#thehouseinthenight#susanmarieswanson#bethkrommes#fitnyc#raisingreaders#americanlibraryassociation #associationoflibraryservicesforchildren #illustration#childrensbookillustration#patterndesign#surfacedesign#interiordesign#scratchboard
Two weeks ago, before the summer cold of all summer colds hit me, I had the chance to sit on the “How to Book Club” panel at the #americanlibraryassociation annual conference. It was so much fun to join these esteemed authors in a conversation about book club inspiration and innovation. It was the first time I shared the story of how Bookclubz came to be and insights from the many clubs in our community in front of such a large audience! Thank you so much for the opportunity @bookclubcentral @americanlibraryassociation !
Cannonballers love graphic novels AND libraries, so they were psyched to hear that the American Library Association's journal, Booklist, announced that July is Graphic Novels in Libraries Month. "Throughout July, Booklist will share original videos featuring authors and illustrators from @ALA_Booklist on Twitter using the #readgraphic hashtag, inviting all readers to join the conversation." What's your favorite graphic novel to recommend? Feel free to also tag @cannonballread in your tweets if you share #readgraphic with @ALA_Booklist!
