You know how much I'm taken in by straight lines of veg? Well, here's the autumn planted garlic giving me my hit. But it's not just the straight lines stiring my soul right now. It's simply that this is growth and at this time of year I could stand and stare at this scene for hours. Chances are I'd get wet and possibly a little chilly too. But it would be worth it. I plant my garlic in the middle of October. It never fails me. I've probably tempted fate right there.. The chances are this will hold now. The winter will stall the growth above the ground but below the roots will enjoy a little bit of expansion. Garlic is a hardy thing and so I never worry whatever the winter throws at me. And we all know how variable it can be. But with roots making headway, when the spring finally arrives the garlic will romp away and the long season of growth means I should get a good size bulb on each. I've grown more garlic this year. I adore the stuff. I'm feeling the pinch in the kitchen. We use the pungent bulb many times a week and I'm starting to get a little low on last year's crop already. That'll learn me! . . . . . #allotment#veggiepatch#growyourown#homegrown#kitchengarden#sustainable#garlic#allotmentlife#gyo#epicgardening#growyourownfood#organicgardening
This is the weekends progress on the l new plot. All levelled. Concrete slab with border ready for greenhouse that was ordered today. (6 weeks wait while they make it!) Raised beds roughly marked out so I could lay type 1 over a weed membrane. There will be nice finishing stone on top when soils in beds. The beds are going to be 2 or maybe 3 oak sleepers in depth and all exactly uniform for my ocd. All these sleepers will be removed to cut to exact size before refitting. If a jobs worth doing it's worth doing well! I have a sleeper wall to build over the next few weeks at the far end too and make a cut flower border there...... Brilliant progress this weekend with company. Now back to me on my own during lunch breaks and the odd hour at weekends but it will all be ready for the main growing season to kick off. #allotmentlife#allotments#growyourown# growyourownfood #allotment

I thought I’d do a little post today about my strawberry experiment this year -Complete with a picture by picture walk through as I’m really pleased with how they’ve turned out! I bought a strawberry plant from the garden centre back in the summer, it gave me a few beautiful strawberries but then was left wilted beyond repair with the excruciatingly hot summer we had. The last remaining strawberry I stripped of it’s seeds and dried it out on some kitchen roll. Spreading the seeds into my windowsill propagator, I left them to germinate. MONTHS went by, and I finally gave up and decided to get rid so I could propagate something else, I took off the lid and noticed the tiny little leaves of a germinated plant 🌱 absolutely buzzing, I left them be, and gradually they got stronger and stronger and more plants grew. Which takes us to now (last picture) of my two strong little plants. I’m fully expecting them to make no fruit, or for the fruit to be completely different to the mother plant (of which I’ve forgotten the variety 🙄), but whatever I get I know I’ll feel - great sense of satisfaction due to how much effort I’ve put in. Proud berry mama right here 🍓 . . #growyourown#gyo#allotment#allotmentuk#allotmentlife#gardener#femalegardener#allotmentlove#allotmentclearing#allotmentplans#strawberries#layout#blueberries#companionplanting#raisedbeds#organic#organicgrowing#plotlife#raspberries#fruit#fruittree#homegrown#autumn#raspberries🍇
Paying a visit to Plot 6 for a last look this year. A handful of little flower sprouts to harvest, plus cavolo nero and chard. Hardly been here for the last few weeks and missed it. One of the highlights of 2018 for me, taking on this bramble covered plot and transforming into my happy place. Itching for Jan when I’ll start planning next years #plot6adventures#allotmentlife#ediblegarden
Another angle, planning where to start.. going to get the shed cleared out first I think so I can have a seat ready for my son then I can get stuck in... I didn’t peek in the compost bin yesterday so not sure if it can be moved or not, I reckon I’ll start a bed at a time and just get stuck in. I’m self employed and it’s taking all my willpower to finish my to do list for today in the house - it’s not raining and I want to jump in the car and get started 🌿
Literally have eggs everywhere!!!! 🥚🥚🥚 I’ve still got about 15 eggs leftover despite making egg muffins for the kids packed lunches and baked haddock eggs for breakfast 😋 Seriously not complaining though..I ❤️eggs!! Chicken keepers - what do you do with all of yours?
WEEK 50: Slow News Weeks. As the days in December hit double figures we arrive at a couple of slow news weeks. Much hasn't changed from the previous updates but here is an update anyway. We must take one last opportunity to remind you that the VERY LAST of our winter #pansies are on offer. They are scruffy, they need trimming before planting, but they will be fine, plus they are 4-boxes (48 #plants) for £10. Also we only have a few mini #cyclamen left. There will be no more this year once current stock is sold. We have one last delivery of #roses scheduled for this week. This will include a slightly better range of 80cm standards. We expect the range of bush/climbing cultivars to improve slightly by late January 2019. Loose #seed stock has been ordered for January when, alongside the arrival of #seedpotatoes, we will initiate our #looseseeddeli experiment. You will be able to choose from a range of the larger seed #vegetable cultivars. Some will be sold by weight & some per seed. Most will either be from our usual loose selection, NEW cultivars, top performers or #organic varieties. Most you WILL NOT find in packet selections. The cover picture this morning is an adult #nandina domestica (AKA Sacred bamboo), which isn't actually a bamboo at all. Often they do not #berry until relatively adult. This £159.99 specimen is laden. That is all for this update folks. Stay warm as temp's are due to dip this week and... Happy dreaming of #gardening ;-) #clockhousenursery#enfield#garden#shrubs#perennials#allotment#allotmentlife#gyo
