Normally, I would not post a picture like this. For two reasons: A) Aesthetically speaking, it’s not the perfect yogi Social media look. Not super skinny, super flexible, or super spiritual. B) it’s not the most stable place to practice yoga. On a tree. . . . . . . . But, I’m practicing something I love in an environment I love. So why should I let social media and the image of an “ideal” yogi or practice keep me from posting something I love? I’ve realized that social media can increase the symptoms of depression in others. From social media platform trolls, the perfect ideal body image, to all the fad diets, workouts. I’ve had this conversation with others before. I’m participating in the #earthdayeco and today’s earth friendly action is inspiring each other to eat more veggies and cut down on meat. This is not to convince you to change your diet but only to inspire a spark to maybe shift your ideas and try out something new. Currently I am a vegetarian 🌱 and being a vegetarian means that I do not eat any meat. The reason I follow this lifestyle is because of all the benefits it has on the earth and animals. If I can make a difference somewhere in the world by not eating meat then I will definitely do so. So many animals are harmed and are in inhumane conditions just to be able to feed the human race. And honestly it makes me sad to think that. A belief that I follow and that I have tattooed is #ahimsa which means that I cannot harm any living being and being vegetarian contributes to that belief. If I am able to treat land with respect, farm organically, and to be kind to animals and all living beings. This is the true meaning of ahimsa. I made the decision to go vegan after a lifetime of chronic and undiagnosed stomach pain and a variety of other "mystery" ailments. Something inside of me just snapped and I knew that meat, dairy and eggs could no longer be a part of my diet. I was living in LA at the time, working at a large yoga company so there was no shortage of inspiration and amazing foods to try. Everything felt new again, I fell in love with cooking on a deeper level then ever before. As I began to eat whole plant foods and feel WONDERFUL I started to research more about the ethical side of veganism. I always tell people that while health brought me to veganism, the ethical reasons are why I will be vegan forever.
