Graceful and rugged the African bush is a land of harsh realities and extraordinary beauty. What a privilege to be touched by it, to contribute to its protection through our jewelry sales and to attempt to capture its essence in our designs. #beautyfrombrutality #snarewirejewelry #theafricanbush

After mostly negative news reported over the last few weeks, it is truly a heart-warming sight to see so many beautiful little ones safe and secure at The Kruger National Park, South Africa, a true haven to the elephant species. Thanks to our favourite ranger @ashwellglasson for this photo that brings so much joy and for keeping the future of the species safe. Keep up the great work! #theivoryresistance #elephant #endangered #animalactivist #southafrica #wildliferanger #africanelephant #savetheelephants #bekindtoelephants Reposted from @ashwellglasson - As I look out over the landscape. The third week of Operation Wallacea expeditions at CRA’s Urban Research Camp at @KumbaliBaseCAmp was another great success. The students learned about bats, carnivores, small mammals, insects, and birds as well as gained valuable field experience while working with the CRM and ABC teams. Students aided CRM in with scat analysis, sorting out hair, bones, and anthropogenic material from scat collected during scat transects. Additionally, several species of carnivores were caught on the camera traps including bushy-tailed mongoose (Bdeogale crassicauda), spotted hyena (Crocuta crocuta), and Cape porcupine (Hystrix africaeaustralis). On Saturday, students participated in a human-wildlife conflict workshop led by ABC and CRM staff at Bunda University in Lilongwe. The following is the CRA OPWAL Group 3 research summary: Bats🦇: 4 bat surveys, 4 bat species, 8 bats, 4 veg surveys Carnivores🐆: 14 hours of radio tracking, 10 scat transects, over 500 hours of camera trapping, 13 scats washed Small Mammals🐁: 5 species caught, 120 trap nights Birds🦅: 6 mist-netting surveys, 4 bird point counts, 34 birds captured from 15 species This third expedition was an enormous help to the CRA team, aiding with a range of projects and collecting valuable data. The CRA team hopes the students had as much fun as we did and is extremely thankful to them all for their time and effort! #conservationresearchafrica #cra #operationwallacea #opwal #opwalexpedition #africanbatconservation #abc #carnivoreresearchmalawi #crm #africa #africanwildlife #africanconservation #wildlife #nature #volunteer #volunteerinafrica #conservation #research #wildliferesearch #urbanecology #urbanresearch #bats #carnivores #birds

Masai Giraffe🦒 ______________________________________________ With only about 35,000 Masai Giraffe’s left, these guys are now declared as endangered. In the last 30 years these guys numbers dropped by around 50%. While it is illegal in some African countries to hunt these animals, poachers are still after them for things like their hide, bones, tail and meat. They are also hunted for believed “medicinal” values that they may have. The largest reason is due to human populations.
While we just lost of our historical elders earlier this year african artworks were being auctioned, I can’t confirm if they were acquired through holistic channels. But I say that to say this, we need to take ownership of our legacy and how it’s accessed by the world. #repost ・・・ African and Oceanic Art Lempertz Brussels, Auction: Tuesday 9 April 2019, 2 pm The 349 lots comprising #lempertz auction on April 9 include a large collection of Yoruba artefacts collected by Mareidi and Gert Stoll during their time in #nigeria in the 1960s. On their return to #munich they set up Galerie Schwarz-Weiss which quickly earned a reputation for the quality and range of its Yoruba artworks. . . . . . . . . . . #africanart #africansculpture #oceanicart #oceanicarts #sculptureauction #tribal #art #arttribal #auctions #auction #art_sharing #artoninstagram #instaartsy #artiseverywhere #arthistory #art_collective #africanhistory #africanconservation
African Lion 🦁 Dakari _________________________________________ In the last 20 years, we have lost 1/2 of our lion population in the world. With only 20,000 left, there is actually less lions than elephants and rhinos in the world. We’ve lost those lions due to pushing them out of their habitats, and hunting (as a trophy, for “medicinal” reasons, or because of them attacking farmers cattle). The “Protect the Pride” campaign was created by Disney and the Disney Conservation Fund to help increase their numbers by 2050. With the release of the new Lion King coming up soon, Disney (as well as fans) will donate about $3 million dollars to this fund, which will mark the largest single contribution of the Disney Conservation Fund.
