As Thanksgiving approaches, I want to remind everyone with a chronic illness or disability that you shouldn’t be afraid to set up boundaries, even with family. 🚧 . The world puts a lot of pressure on us to be there for the big dinner, see loads of family, decorate for Christmas, etc. For some of us, our health is too fragile to participate in these activities and we have to say “no.” . You are NOT a bad person for staying at home during the holidays and putting your health first. Anybody who truly cares will also care that Thanksgiving could make you more sick, and respect your wishes. . Don’t let anyone guilt-trip you into putting yourself in a position that may be dangerous. Stand your ground. 💪🏼 I know it’s tough, especially if you have family that just simply doesn’t “get it” but your life matters. Your health matters. Keeping you stable is more important than showing up for a mandated holiday that ultimately can be celebrated any time of year, in whatever way your body allows. . If anybody needs to talk about standing your ground during the holidays, my inbox is always open. I believe in your ability to advocate for yourself! You are more important than traditions. 💗
I'm sharing this because I'm hoping this makes someone feel comfortable in who they are and any mental or physical condition they may have. I used to be worried about what people would think about me if I told them my diagnosis. I'm also posting this to remind myself how far I've come and that I have a purpose. These past several months have been some of the most challenging, hurtful, and awakening months of my life, and I'm still working through a lot of things that I know I haven't healed from and disappointments in others and how they've treated me, and at myself. A lot of people throw around the term "bipolar" but when I use the term "psychotic symptoms" people cringe. "Psychotic symptoms" refer to delusions, it doesnt mean someone runs around with a knife. I hope that whoever watches this realizes that this isn't "just it". There is more to life than where you are at. Like my friend said "you create your reality". Start making the right decisions to change your life and end your toxic cycles and WATCH what good comes your way. Sometimes God doesnt grant you what you want because your environment is limiting YOU. #mentalhealth#mentalillness#mentalhealthawareness#speaker#publicfigure#publicspeaker#advocate#women#woman#womanofworth#useyourvoice#power#strength#confidence#change#process#life#live#love#radio#interview
This is Me 🦋 | Being able to get out, laugh, and have fun with people who inspire me is always a reminder that I’m making progress. This mental fight can be very difficult at times especially since I’ve chosen to be pharmaceutical free. Instead of “trying” to get through I can finally say I’m doing it! | #stigmafree#mentalhealth#mentalhealthawareness#yahjahsings#advocate#fighter
When the past calls📲, don't pick up. It has "nothing new" to say. Some of us are stagnant and cannot figure out why we keep losing on the same level in this game called life. Whether it's an old relationship or friendship that has proven fruitless, or even an accomplishment that you've done that got you praise...We have to stop answering the phone for the past, and start calling the future. 📞 #stayjotivated#motivationmonday
Y'all know that I am the proudest Nigerian🇳🇬❤, but can we talk??? Nigerian academic Professors requesting for sexual favors from students (predominantly females), in exchange for passing grades has been a known digusting and dehumanizing occurrence in the universities. I just stumbled on this article and interview by CNN and it filled my heart with hope for these young girls. They are finally finding their voices, and we need to support them!!! Thank God for the #metoo movement, young girls are feeling empowered to share their horrible experiences. I am so happy and proud of this young lady that found the confidence to speak up. She also presented the recorded conversations with him. Now her story and interview with CNN will change the lives of other young girls. Sexual exploitation is still a huge challenge, not just in Nigeria but around the world. We’re slowly winning the war that stomps on the well being of women. Young girls should at least be able to obtain an education or pursue a career without being sexually exploited, or degraded. Sexual harassment is one of the stressors that hinders academic work, and career performance. Let us be a voice to the voiceless! TIP OF DAY: Girls, record the conversations (if you can) and hand it over to the authorities and the media. Use your cell phone wisely to save yourself, not just to take slay photos! 🤔 ??Who believes this Professor deserves jail time- if found guilty. Share your advice for the young girls!
