If you know what this film is without googling it I need to know you or marry you. Only one person I have ever met is very familiar with this film, and he is my old acting teacher. The very loved and legendary Lisle Jones. Like me he’s devoured many B&Ws, so dinner catchups can become very long evenings of joyous banter about great stories and characters we have both admired. From a very young age these films not only taught me about storytelling, but they influenced my understanding of self and others. Those little character traits in the hero you respond to, the trait that rises above a challenge, the one that problem solves or copes in a crisis, a determined choice you admire, a heroic gesture, or a great leap of faith. These ‘acceptances’ of the character’s own vulnerabilities seem to drive them forwards to make new choices. Great films not only have emotional lessons from love and compassion to anger and hate, but they also have a narrative power to facilitate new thinking, and in an ideal world, perspectives, attitudes and belief systems. I absolutely believe they can be mini Emotion Coaching bootcamps when they force an audience into self reflection. The first time I watched this particular film above it was a thump to my chest. It echoed a philosophy about love I’d read in Le Petit Prince as a child, and reinforced my lifelong position on the ideal way to love. I wonder if anyone else knows of it. VALE TODO SEU TEMPO! O Ódio que Você Semeia (The Hate U Give) | 2018 | Drama | Dir.

#tbt @stevenspielbergoffical and @whoopigoldberg on the set of #thecolorpurple, one of our all-time favorite book to movies. This is a 1985 American coming-of-age period drama film directed by Steven Spielberg and written by Menno Meyjes, based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name by #alicewalker. We are so inspired by film and forever in love with the performances of @mrdannyglover @oprah @margaretshugavery. “Coffee Will Make You Black” takes place about fifty years later and in Chicago instead of the rural South. But, the themes of both hold true then and now. The film was a box office success, hitting $142 million from a budget of $15 million. The film was nominated for eleven Academy Awards. #goals#inspiration#booktomovie#adaptedscreenplay#oprah#whoopigoldberg#stevenspielberg#dannyglover#alicewalker
Adrift (2018) A good film adaptation of the true life story of Tami Oldman's survival for 41 days in the middle of the Pacific Ocean after a hurricane. Divergent Star Shailene Woodley acts as Tami in this one and she played it so well. There was something missing in this film that I haven't been able to place a finger on but I know it was a little too long with little or no wow moments to give you that goosebumps effect that a movie like this clearly required. There wasn't really any emotional moment to give you that "I'm not gonna cry" feeling as well. Sam Claflin didn't really leave a mark on this film, after his performance in "Me Before You" (2016) I certainly had high expectations of the actor. In conclusion, it's a decent film.
