Here is my entry for @liobabrueckner 's December painting challenge 'Festive'. I entered this piece I titled 'The Magic of Christmas' because it is definately the most challenging piece I have attempted this year, particularly with the background. I love how the composition of the the painting focuses and draws you in to the intense gaze of the cat, whicb I photographed sunbathing in the chilly Autumn air as it spied on me from the undergrowth. Its eyes almost seem ethereal and human-like, which is why I thought it would be perfect to create that idea of magic and with added some holly, create an air of festivity. And what other time of year do most people tend to feel more magic, nostalgia and wonder than at Christmastime. #liobaspaintingchallenge#painting#acrylics#christmasart#throwback#throwbacktuesday#cat#blackcat#christmas#christmascat#catart#themagicofchristmas#magic

This is a color concept I had to do for art class. I‘m painting this with acrylics and in huge at the moment. In my opinion the concept looks a lot better, I‘m not that good with acrylics :/ It‘s still fun tho😊 Do you prefer acrylics or watercolors?🤔
I have a hobby problem. Or a #mustcreatethingsoriwilldieprobably problem. Either way, this is an incredibly satisfying process. To see the best part of this, which is the flip cup, see my dirty pour highlights.
The funny thing about being an artist is... . It has a little to do with luck and is constantly a surprise. After one of my weekly breakfast with my dear friend @jackiemaloney.artist where we laughed constantly and talked about a thousand different things, we both touched upon how we are lucky to be able to be an artists. Let me say that again... I am LUCKY to be able to be an artist. Which is strange for me to say because I have absolutely said before that I don’t really believe in “luck”. . I grew up being very self sufficient, I’ve always purchased and owned my own cars, paid my way through college, and have always prided myself on doing what I needed to do to pay my bills on time (aka working three jobs for several year). . But eventually and slowly my circumstances changed and my husband had a wonderful job opportunity that brought us to Long Island. After 6 years of us working incredibly hard in our respective fields and saving money I was finally able to take a risk and go for a dream of mine, to be an artist professionally. Although making a decision like that does take a lot of bravery, an essential part of the decision was knowing that my husband had a stable good job. This was one of the main factors that gave us both the confidence for me to choose a different path. I have definitely realized something through the years, that it’s incredibly hard (not impossible!) to create when the stress of survival looms. So I’m LUCKY because those years of saving and scrapping by have blossomed into an opportunity to follow my creative path! I’m so incredibly grateful for the opportunities I’ve been given and the dreams that I’ve said yes to. If you had told me 5 years ago I would be doing what I’m doing now...I wouldn’t of believed you. I wonder what the next 5 years has in store for me....✨ What dreams of yours have surprised you?
