I’m finally working on a tutorial for our DIY Concrete Countertops, but was interrupted by tornado warnings and sirens 😬😬 we are all ok but the electricity is still out! Definitely be praying for those in the area who had any damage!! . . Back to the countertops...I got lots of questions about how we did them, mainly if we made molds or poured them in place. We ended up going with molds and I’ll be sharing my thoughts on all that and what ultimately led us to our final decision! . . I wish target stocked their cute home goods the way the stock their clothes. When this vase came out they had a whole collection of burnt wood decorative objects, a week later, they were all gone. It’s probably one of my favorite pieces in my house because of how authentic it looks and feels and I wish I had the foresight to have bought more from the collection. • • You can shop this space in my house by taking a screen shop and opening your @liketoknow.it app. #liketkit http://liketk.it/2DxBI
When I used this color, (Green Smoke by Farrow & Ball), two years ago in this stay-place bedroom, I had never seen this shade of green used before and really had no idea if it would look amazing or like a baby’s dirty diaper. THIS is a really big part of my personality that has helped me in our design biz. I love, love, love taking risks and trying things that no one else has and discovering stunning new combos in the process. Not everything works out - goodness I’ve had a fair share of fails! But you absolutely never know until you try, and in a creative business it always pays to take risks and skirt around the edge of what the mainstream is doing. . Currently working out the details of my largest project yet, due to start in the new year. We’ll finally get the opportunity to work on a new build WHILE it’s being built! I’m the kind of excited that’s already keeping me up at night dreaming about the possibilities 😍 HAPPY SATURDAY, friends!
Turning on the lights this morning and this little corner felt so special to me. Little 12 month old Henry’s scrunched nose and the love of my life smiling at our little babe. 🥰 We spent time this week looking through photos of uncle bill and I just kept thinking how special to have those photos and moments in print. I may take a lotttt of pictures but I am so glad I do. Now I just need to do a better job of printing them because there is something so special about flipping through a book or a box filled with memories.
Sharing a before (swipe left) and after of our entryway, but talking about something else. So...earlier this week, one evening, I was on my computer and a message from Apple kept popping up about resetting my iPhone which was plugged into the computer recharging. I don't actually remember the exact message, but I kept dismissing it and it kept popping up so I just did it and that's when the nightmare began. OMG! It reset my iPhone and completely erased my content. All I had left was Instagram and a few contacts...no emails, no photos, no notes, nothing! Apple support was closed until 6am the following morning. Yes, I shed a tear...I thought it was all over...my sweet husband assured me that there would be a back up on iCloud, but we had no idea how to access it. My alarm went off at 6am the next morning...I made a pot of coffee "first" and then called Apple support. I spent 3 hours on the phone with them trying to get my content back and finally it worked. To say I was bouncing off the ceiling was an understatement. My life was back! The point of telling you this story is to say how crazy it is that we (well at least I) depend so heavily on our/my phone and everything we/I keep on it. Not good! The moral of the story for me was don't panic and be grateful for iCloud. 1. Has this ever happened to you? 2. Do you have a love/hate relationship with technology? 3. Do you also keep things written down somewhere not on your phone? Hope you are having a great weekend. I said out loud to my husband today - ‘I never want to buy a fixer upper again!’, after sanding back these window frames ready to paint tomorrow. I am so excited to see them fresh and white, but the work that goes into the prep of it all (not to mention three young children who got up to all sorts of mischief while I was sanding), is sometimes overwhelming. Each small reno job takes three times longer with children around, checking on them, making snacks for them, breaking up sibling fights. Fun fun fun. Haha. But in saying that - I can’t wait to sit on this deck and NOT SEE the colour maroon. Also sidenote: while I was doing this, husband was busy sealing the inside of our windows hoping some heat actually stays in the house over these last five weeks of winter.
