Tony Starlight in the park on this beautiful Friday evening πŸžοΈπŸŽ™οΈπŸŽΆπŸ˜Ž
Learning how to transform bacteria (inserting a plasmid to get it to produce a specific protein for us) while also learning a new protocol for protein coupling in preparation for antibody purification next week. Both tasks involve some waiting so it's totally possible to do them simultaneously, but I'm definitely feeling a little stretched! I'm going to need to do some gardening or something this afternoon to rest my brain! πŸ‘©‍πŸ”¬πŸ§ͺπŸ§¬πŸ§«πŸ€“ . . . #ohsu #ohsuresearch #research #researchlab #lab #science #sciencestudent #scientist #stem #stemstudent #stemeducation #womeninstem #womeninscience #biology #biologist #microbiology #microbiologist #chemistry #chemist #biochemistry #biochemist
Oregon coast, day two: walking on the beach, teaching me Euchre (not pictured), and hiking to the end of Cape Lookout. And identifying a bunch of stuff with my Seek app and admiring some lovely gastropods. 😁
Escaped to the coast for a night! πŸ–οΈπŸŒŠβ›…β˜ΊοΈ
7-Eleven Day 2019! Such a fun summer tradition, even if the older boys were over it earlier than in past years so we "only" went to three. πŸ˜„
Angel Ocasio Comedy Variety Show at the library this morning, followed by our first slurpee stop of the day (picking up the other kids to head back out for more)! Angel's physical comedy was right up Nathan's alley - I'm so glad we were able to go! πŸ˜ƒ
July 2nd is a little late to be planting a garden, but Dollar Tree had seeds for 10¢, and I also found some old packets in the garage, so there's really no loss if it doesn't work. After we finished in the garden I had Nathan plant some marigolds in a container he brought home from school a while back, and he said "I never knew that gardening could be so much fun!" And this mama's heart just about burst! ♥️😊
World Naked Bike Ride, Portland edition! This was our third time participating, and we look forward to it all year! Such an amazing experience in so many ways! 🌎🚲♥️ I've tried to edit/crop the pictures to keep them PG-13, but that's not really possible with videos so consider yourself warned! Capturing an event with thousands of people in various stages of undress (official dress code is "bare as you dare") is inherently going to show a little skin! It's all part of the @pdxwnbr experience! 😁 #wnbr #pdxwnbr #naked #nakedbike #nakedbikeride #portland #oregon #portlandoregon #pdx #bareasyoudare
Rugged Maniac - always a good time! My parents weren't able to make it this year, so we missed my dad running with us and my mom being our photographer/ cheerleader! Looking forward to seeing the pictures that the official race photographers got! #ruggedmaniac #ruggedmaniac2019 #mud #mudrun #muddy #portland #oregon #pdx #pir
About to get muddy! πŸ˜ƒ #ruggedmaniac
Enjoying all the life lessons from this beautiful, fleeting moment, only visible from certain perspectives, and only experienced after a storm. β˜€οΈπŸŒ§οΈπŸŒˆ
What am I going to do with myself this summer? Three basic things: catch up on chores, do fun summery things with my kids (especially the younger ones), and take some time to recharge after pushing myself so hard all year! A lazy morning in bed with a book, a kitty, and a cup of coffee is so nice. Getting up soon to work on those other two - trying to savor this moment first! πŸŒ„πŸ“˜πŸˆβ˜•♥️
Taking on some new responsibilities at work this week - cue the nervous excitement! 😬😁 It's actually not related to having just graduated - a member of my lab just happens to be moving on, so I'm taking over one of his projects. Still feels like I'm leveling up a bit! πŸ‘©‍πŸ”¬πŸ”¬πŸ§«πŸ€“
Playground Phenomenon Park Party this afternoon! Such a beautiful bridge, park, and day. So nice/strange to not have any homework to worry about!
Graduation! I'm pretty sure I'm officially a scientist now. πŸ‘©‍πŸ”¬πŸ§ͺπŸ”¬πŸ§«πŸ§¬πŸ€“πŸ˜

It might not look like much, but this packet of papers represents so many hours of work, so much stress, and so many emotions. There were tears on more than one occasion, including a minor (?) breakdown in the hall an hour ago when I realized I wasn't going to be able to turn it in on time. ~24 other labs over the course of the year and I've gotten every single one of them in on time, but this big final one I ended up turning in 40 min late. Really frustrated and disappointed with myself. 😫😭
Biology/Chemistry Poster Session today! I also gave a presentation at an EXITO meeting. And worked a couple hours this morning and studied for my Biology final next week. I'm tired. πŸ˜…
