Klopp: "We are maybe the most emotional club in world football, and emotion in my mind is a very positive thing. Let's make it a very emotional night on the pitch, in the stands, and let's enjoy it together." #livbay#lfc#ynwa#wegoagain#passion
If you haven't read my previous posts go read that first. In this post I'll talk about how our midfield should play. 1. We should avoid dribbling. Klopp likes to use gegenpressing, which means they will press us hard and if we decided to dribble we're probably gonna lose the ball. 2. We should occasionally switch or pass the ball around. This will consume their energy as they like to press. However from what I've heard, they don't just press randomly. They like to find the weaker and vulnerable areas and put pressure there, so we have to be wary of that. I'm not sure if this will work, and it's risky. But I think if we do it once in a while it's okay, just not too often and with good precision. 3. When in possession, we should look to play long/through balls forward most of the time. Liverpool like to press with numbers so a well placed pass can beat quite a few players, which means that they will have fewer players left to defend. All of our players can pass decently/well, especially James and Thiago who also have great vision so they will be able to spot and execute the passes. Some examples are the green arrows in the second picture. 4. We have to play fast football, not just dominate possession and pass the ball around the midfield which we usually do. We should only do that occasionally (point 2), most of the time the ball should be moving from one place to another in quick succession. When we can't spot any through passes to play (point 3), just pass it to the straight to winger. The wingers, fullbacks and the CMs should work together by playing a passing triangle and work their way into a crossing position, represented by the double sided arrows in the second picture. I think this is how we should play in the midfield. Thiago's main job is to dominate the midfield and James's is to create the chances, while Javi helps out the defence, hopefully he stops the counters even before they get dangerous. Thiago is the key man, his performance alone can decide
