Let’s talk isometrics... the most common being a submaximal isometric. This is simply holding a loaded (or unloaded) position for a given time. An example would be deadlift holds at a specific position, squat holds at parallel, push-up holds, etc. There is typically an inverse relationship between load and time. Sub max isometrics are great for strength (but limited to a specific joint angle being trained), postural cueing, correction and restoration as well as improving muscular endurance locally. Strength improvements occur as motor units fatigue, higher thresh hold MUs are recruited and trained. Circuit style isometrics can also have systemic cardiovascular effect. Maximal Isometrics, such as the Isometric Mid Thigh Pull, are an amazing tool for stimulating a maximal voluntary contraction. Rather than holding a position with submaximal resistance, the objective is to exert as much force as possible into an immovable object. This improves max strength by recruiting high threshold MUs at a fast rate. The low volume high intensity makes this approach effective for in season training and testing. Give both a rip and have fun.
I always liked to lift weights, but didn’t really start training until college. I had a professor that bagged me for having terrible depth while squatting (amongst other things) @jimmcginnes I had just gotten out of the Marines and my knees were shot, my back was all types of messed up, I had shin splints and despite being averagely athletic, I just didn’t move well. I’ve been at it for over a decade since and hope to continue on for years to come. Feeling great and blessed to be able to do what I love for a living. I no longer have those lingering issues, besides still being averagely athletic.

Consistent talking points from John Paxson postmortem: 4 key injuries biggest reason for 60 loss season; strongly believe rebuild is headed in right direction with Jim Boylen; adding a high draft pick & 2-3 “physically & mentally tough” vets will put them in playoff hunt. #bulls
Last week the Holy Cross Warriors were privileged to attend a Chicago Bulls Training Session at Advocate Center. They are a true team that went on to finish their season without their fallen teammate Karl Soliman. They have continued on with team spirit and faith that Karl is still with them. I applaud the entire Bulls organization, especially those we spent time with last Friday, for their genuine compassion and kindness to our family and Karl’s teammates!!! Thank you!
Check out a little behind the scenes of our @chicagobulls Baby Bull photo shoot today! These little ones are already starting their training for our Baby Bull Race next season! We can’t wait to see Gio, Michael and Vinod compete. #bullsnation
Shaking off the residual fatigue while not being overly self critical. I had a day off yesterday, but it’s hard to balance my passion for lifting with my passion for whiskey. Who rocks the sleeveless hoodie better? Looking at you @imfelicio
Good ‘Ol Power Cleans... Power production and force absorption. I’m a fan for athletes (snatch for basketball to help mitigate the chance of wrist injuries), but it takes time and patience... 8 x 3 @ 80ish% Love tracking velocity, load and volume to train different attributes during the year to match our training focus for our program.
