Check this american bison, charging in Yellowstone National Park. Bison bulls can weigh in excess of 2000lbs, and the heads and forequarters are massive. Both sexes have short, curved horns that can grow up to 2 ft long, which they use in fighting for status within the herd and for defense. ~YELLOWSTONE~ This is the first for our amazing animal encounters this weekend. As we drove up to a couple of people pulled over ( nothing like summer in the park) I hoped out to find a deceased bison and a coyote. Within a few minutes a park ranger showed up and she was full of information as always we love park rangers!! They had been watching this Bison for the last four days. She was about two years old and sick. The ranger said a big part of the time a Bison will come back from a sickness because they are incredibly strong creatures unfortunately this one did not. ~ There were two coyotes in the time I was there this guy having a turn and another waiting about 30 yards away. The ranger explained they will come with a snowmobile and sled and take the deceased Bison further out into the plains away from the road and it will be up to the wolves as to who gets what. Nature is truly amazing and even though I felt bad for the Bison , Ben my oldest, informed me “ mom, that is the cycle of nature”. More on the second coyote tomorrow!
Called « Elk on the Move » I caught this serene stroll by the lake shore in Yellowstone National park. @natgeo is celebrating their 100 million followers on Instagram so I’m breaking up the feed for one of my favorite NatGeo inspired shots. #natgeo100contest
Yellowstone Falls in the Mist. This is one of my personal favorite images capturing a Dreamtime combination of elements and mood. I hope you like it as much as me! Prior to my recent visit to Yellowstone I had only seen this falls in postage stamps and occasional images posted on the web. Nothing prepared me for the extent of the magnificence and grandeur of these falls and yellow canyon other than seeing them in person, especially on this misty morning. Sights like this are iconic for a reason and they have the power to instill strong emotional reactions in the scores of people who visit them daily, often for the first time in a once in a lifetime visit and pilgrimage. It is no wonder Yellowstone was made the first national park in the USA, this place is utterly beautiful.#beautifuldestinations #yellowstonenationalpark#yellowstonefalls
Forest Grump . There is no better animal to work with using remotes than the American bison. They don’t care about what’s in front of them and unlike lions, they won’t confiscate the camera either! . It is the only way to get close. The rangers in #yellowstone rigidly impose a 25 yard rule and we would never knowingly breech that - it’s obviously there for a reason. When placing remotes the animals have to be at least 100 yards away in order to have time to premanually focus and make the camera settings which can take up to 10 seconds. . On Wednesday - the bison near Old Faithful in Yellowstone Park were coated in frost and this gave me an opportunity I have never had before. We eventually got there. Yay! . #itsfiveoclocksomewhere
Hidden Bison. Though It’s hard to hide behind a snow bank when you are a one ton animal! My first time to Yellowstone National Park in the dead of winter was spectacular and challenging, mainly keeping my hands warm while shooting and trying to traverse the land in waste deep snow. I have a new appreciation for these prehistoric bison. My quips pale in comparison to their daily struggles in the winter. Absolutely magnificent animals built for the conditions but if you plan on visiting the park, please give way as they also use the roads to get around. Many are injured from cars going too fast or pressured to get off the road. I connected with an amazing guide @yellowstoneguide who not only was a whiz on the icy roads but had a deep appreciation and knowledge of the local wildlife. With a focus on photography, he also got me some other rare sightings too…Thanks Jort!! . . . #yellowstone#yellowstonenps#bison#yellowstoneforever#yellowstonepledge#wyoming#montana#thewildlifebiologist#shots_of_animals#marvelouz_animals#nikonlove#wildanimals#exclusive_wildlife#featured_wildlife#wildlife#wildlifephotography#bns_nature#animalelite #bbcearth#earthcapture #ig_shotz_animal#animallovers#wildlifeaddicts#joysafaribay#natioanlparkgeek#findyourpark#keepitwild#natgeoyourshot#nikond850 @bbcearth @yellowstonenps @nikonusa
