This is our home, it has been for many generations. Now we have individuals coming here in the pursuit of practicing stewardship. When Park Rangers come in and fatally shoot one of our own relatives, Venson Kee Yazzie, they are placed under paid leave because he isn’t a suspect of a crime. Venson sold his Rock art to support his family and during the altercation with the ranger he had only a knife. Imagine if Venson carried the honorable title of US National Park Ranger. These national parks connected us to our past so we may still have a future. I live to die protecting what I love and Venson is a mighty warrior to me. The point is: they signed that multi-agency plan too soon! Members of my community were confused about what it would bring and amidst all this chaos in the world I have no luxury of not having to worry about the worst things to happen.
Spent a magical day inside Canyon de Chelly yesterday listening to the beautiful memories of our Navajo guide of his childhood “playground” and discovering more about the history and amazing beauty of this land.
When I tell you that there are about 50 shots I could have posted of this amazing place, I wouldn’t be lying. Canyon de Chelly may just be my new favorite spot in Arizona. 🏜 ~~~ Everybody’s first thought when they’re visiting The Sunshine State is to hit up the Grand Canyon, then Sedona. But this park is a hidden gem nestled into Northeastern AZ on the Navajo Reservation. 🏜 ~~~ It offers Native American dwellings, sheer sandstone cliffs and dramatic 1000 ft vertical walls. We were lucky to arrive just at sunset and the colors were amazing. Pictures really can’t do it justice. 🏜 ~~~ Most of the shots you’ll see here are on the South Rim. The first picture is of Spider Rock. The star of the show. It’s a stone spire rising 830 ft above the canyon floor. 🏜 ~~~ If you plan to visit this park, schedule a Jeep tour down in the canyon. We didn’t...and boy do I wish we had. To be down in the canyon looking up at these walls would be incredible. We definitely plan to go back and take one. I only wish it was sooner than later. 🏜 ~~~ #canyondechelly#nativeamerican#navajo#navajoreservation#arizona#chinle#ig_arizona #conquerarizona#visitarizona#instagramaz#getout#roadtrip#travelphotography#photography#sunset#shadows#cliffs#history#nationalpark#nationalparkpassport
