Sometimes you just have to laugh at the creative, individual perspective that comes out in a students’ Scratch project. While these Digital Citizenship lessons were timely and serious, the students also enjoyed taking their Scratch coding to the next level. #agawam #agawammass #agawamschools #agawamk4steam #steameducation #steameducationforkids #stemeducation #stemforkids #commonsenseeducation #scratchcoding #scratchcodingforkids
Learn about the steps to take when someone is being unkind online. This is such an important lesson in our digital age. Thanks to Common Sense Education for the age appropriate curriculum! Enjoy the show! #agawam #agawammass #agawamschools #agawamk4steam #steameducation #steameducationforkids #stemeducation #stemforkids #commonsenseeducation #scratchcoding #scratchcodingforkids
Our last lesson on Digital Citizenship was about being an upstander when faced with unkind words or cyberbullying. The 4th grade students did a fabulous job on this project! I will post a few in a row. Enjoy! #agawam #agawammass #agawamschools #agawamk4steam #steameducation #steameducationforkids #stemeducation #stemforkids #commonsenseeducation #scratchcoding #scratchcodingforkids
These students from James Clark School had work from their STEAM classes entered into the Eversource Challenge contest. They were selected as winners and will be attending an awards ceremony on May 18th along with their teacher Mrs. Rumplik. The kindergarten students designed posters. Third grade students wrote energy saving limericks. The fourth grade students designed billboards and wrote persuasive paragraphs to encourage people to make better choices about energy to help the planet and fight against climate change. #agawam #agawammass #agawamschools #agawamk4steam #steameducation #steameducationforkids #stemeducation #stemforkids
Based on essays from the students at Clark, Big Y awarded the school $5,000 for STEAM robotics equipment and iPads. The 3rd and 4th grade students put on a thank you assembly for Big Y. The students sang the song “A Million Dreams” and read one of the essays, and elementary STEAM teacher, Mrs. Rumplik, and principal, Mrs. Russell, each gave a speech thanking them for their generosity. The show finished with a robot in action so Big Y could see the type of materials their donation would purchase. #agawam #agawammass #agawamschools #agawamk4steam #steameducation #steameducationforkids #stemeducation #stemforkids #roboticsforkids
4th grade demonstrated their understanding of digital citizenship by creating movies with coding! We discussed why we need to ask permission before posting private information, even our parents’ information. #agawam #agawammass #agawamschools #agawamk4steam #steameducation #steameducationforkids #stemeducation #stemforkids #commonsenseeducation #scratchcoding #scratchcodingforkids
2nd grade was learning about landforms and how the land changes (weathering and erosion). This landscape picture project had the students doing a SLOW change by drip, drip, drip, drip, dripping water to change the land bit by bit. The results are beautiful! #agawam #agawammass #agawamschools #agawamk4steam #steameducation #steameducationforkids #stemeducation #stemforkids
Students in kindergarten practice their engineering skills by designing and building sun blockers. They learned that engineers solve problems. Their problem to solve was how to get shade on a hot and sunny day. The result: some awesome sun glasses, hats, umbrellas, “sun shields”, and tents all made from recycled materials. “Kids minds are perfect for engineering. They are imaginative and look at things in unique perspectives. We love watching them work!” #agawam #agawammass #agawamschools #agawamk4steam #steameducation #steameducationforkids #stemeducation #stemforkids
3rd grade has been learning about weather and climate. The wind proof house challenge ended that unit as they became engineers. They had to make their houses “wind-proof” before the impending windstorm! Ms. Chase says, “I love doing this project with my third graders. Every year I think there is no way they can come up with new ideas, but they do! I love watching them problem solve and collaborate!” #agawam #agawammass #agawamschools #agawamk4steam #steameducation #steameducationforkids #stemeducation #stemforkids
After completion of a project on exploration in the Arctic and Antarctic, a STEAM challenge was given. Each team had to create a structure that could be used instead of a tent during an unexpected storm. The structure with the greatest width and height, that could hold up without collapsing, was deemed the winner. #agawam #agawammass #agawamschools #agawamk4steam #steameducation #steameducationforkids #stemeducation #stemforkids
The Granger Science Fair was a success! From favorite Patriot player to models of ocean zones and the animals that live there the variety made us proud! #agawam #agawammass #agawamschools #agawamk4steam #steameducation #steameducationforkids #stemeducation #stemforkids
Here is another 4th grade Scratch coding project about digital citizenship. This time the students learned about the importance of safe passwords, how to create a safe password, and keeping your password private. We all need to keep these internet safety tips in mind. Great job 4th grade! #agawam #agawammass #agawamschools #agawamk4steam #steameducation #steameducationforkids #stemeducation #stemforkids #commonsenseeducation #scratchcoding
The 4th grade students have been learning about digital citizenship. Our first unit focused on the choices we make to stay safe online. They created cartoons in Scratch showing what they learned about positive behavior online. Never share private information! agawam #agawammass #agawamschools #agawamk4steam #steameducation #steameducationforkids #stemeducation #stemforkids #commonsenseeducation
Our 4th grade students loved the Dash basketball activity! We used the scientific method to successfully code Dash to shoot a basket. Then they created a trick shot! #agawam #agawammass #agawamschools #agawamk4steam #steameducation #steameducationforkids #stemeducation #stemforkids #wonderworkshop #commonsenseeducation
We are continuing to learn about loops—a very important concept in coding! Can you recognize the loops? #agawam #agawammass #agawamschools #agawamk4steam #steameducation #steameducationforkids #stemeducation, #stemforkids #wonderworkshop
Welcome to our Agawam k-4 Steam posts! We are excited to share what the Students are doing as they learn to combine Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math. This area of learning aims to enhance creative problem solving, critical and computational thinking. #agawam #agawammass #agawamschools #agawamk4steam #steameducation #steameducationforkids #stemeducation, #stemforkids
